End-of-year gift for clients: stand out without going over the top

5 August 2026 · 6 min read

Timing, tone and size determine whether your corporate gift lands well. Plus: what's handy to know about tax.

An end-of-year gift for clients isn't a thank you for work, it's a reminder of the partnership. That calls for a different approach than an employee hamper.

Four rules that work

  1. 01Be on time: start in early December, not the week before Christmas. Otherwise you're just one of dozens of other boxes.
  2. 02Keep it compact: a small, beautifully wrapped hamper with a handwritten card makes more of an impression than sheer volume.
  3. 03Make it local: products from Utrecht are a great conversation starter, even with international relations.
  4. 04Avoid overly expensive gifts: that can be awkward for procurement departments and public bodies.

What we offer for business relations

  • Compact boxes from €25 with distinctly Utrecht products.
  • Logo on the sleeve and a personal card per relation.
  • Delivery per address, bundled and by appointment.
  • See the business variant at corporate gifts Utrecht.

Tax

Business gifts fall under business expenses and are only partly deductible; keep an eye on the €227 limit per relation per year for VAT. More on that at WKR & VAT.
